Vinyl laminate flooring over linoleum
Hello all,
I’m planning to install vinyl laminate flooring over an existing linoleum floor, which is glued to a concrete floor in a client’s basement. The linoleum is about 1/16” thick, and is missing in some areas. I am wondering if there will be any problems with the new flooring passing over these voids. I am planning to install an underlayment first. I tried removing the linoleum floor, but 90% of it is glued down incredibly well, and ends up coming off in little shards, which would take ages to remove. Anyone have any advice or experience with a similar situation? Many thanks.

You should remove the existing flooring no question. If you want to take a shortcut then you could probably flash patch or self level the area to feather in the 1/16"
At the very least use floor leveling compound to feather the edges.
Thanks for the replies. I will investigate floor leveling compound, which sounds like the simplest solution.
