Vinyl Replacement Window Jambs

jimmiem | Posted in General Discussion on January 13, 2015 07:01am

Time to replace my vinyl window jambs. The windows are double sash.  I see several manufacturers when I do an internet search but don’t know which one to buy from.

      Vinyl Jamb Liners

Yes.  Just the vinyl Liners.  All the wood, windows and framing are ok.  The windows are Malta (house built in 1988).  I had gotten a replacement liner from Malta years ago when I ruined one.  The replacement was far superior to the original.  Malta was out of business for a while then restarted.  I had contacted them but they had changed their window design when they restarted the company.  I put storm windows on right after I bought the house and this kept the sashes themselves in good shape.  In hind sight I should have redone all the liners when I did the one.

Thank You.  I'll get in touch with them.

On another subject which I had posted concerning a corner floating shelf.  Well I did the 'torsion box' design principle as you suggested and the shelf came out really nice.  I'll get a picture posted ASAP...Thanks again for the suggestion.

I've been in touch with Blaine.  They sent me their product brochure.  One of the products would have done the trick but when I requested more info I was told that they had discontinued that product.  Can you recommend any other sources?  Thank You.  JIM

I do not have another suggestion of supplier...

but I think I'd call Blaine and ask them for a possibility.  In the past a real sweetheart that answered the phone has helped me.

Would that be Debbie?  I've been emailing back and forth with her.

            Maybe

            It's been a while.

these parts are their specialty.  If there's another supplier, she might know.

          4. jimmiem | Sep 20, 2015 09:21am | #10

            Hi Calvin,

I ordered some from Fenster.  $99.95 per window set.  I've done 1 window.  Fit well.  The real test will be once the cold weather/drafts come.  The only 'problem' is that the Fenster tilt pins get attached near the bottom of the sashes and can bump into the screws that attach the sash stiles to the rails....had to use different screw and pin.

            Jim

parts for "old"  (not very) windows are a crapshoot.  Luck has a lot to do with it.

replacement vinyls I needed to repair recently.  '99 vintage.  Absolutely no name or date or manufacturer listing (order labels still on the head jamb).  Broken parts were bottom pins that hooked to the side sliding mechanism.

took one off and went to a local Polaris window supplier.  Still don't know if they had supplied the replacements.  Sure enough, they had the parts and just went in the desk door and gave me some.  "Take a couple extra, you might need them later.....save the drive".

We're up in Nova Scotia looking for mussels.  Sun comes up early here.

Nova Scotia......you're a long way from home.  I assume you're camping.  How's the weather up there?  How long have you been on the road?  Will you be driving across Canada?

            Jim

we left the 13th and tomorrow head up to PEI for some sights and mussels.  Weather has been beautiful, 70+ today and clear skies.  More stars than we've seen in a long while.  Makes camping a very nice time.  Dined with a long ago breaktimer tonight here in Louisbourg.  Known him for years, never met him till tonight.

looks like the cold north winds will blow on Prince Edward .......

we turn around and head back in a couple days.  Grass probably needs cut.

            FWIW

Went through the winter and the Fenster product wasn't as air tight as I had hoped.  I'm going to keep looking for another supplier.
