I’m currently applying vinyl siding on top of 1/2 rigid insulation board on a new house. There is a masonry block chimney that goes up along the wall for two stories that is spaced two inches from the wall. The block is to receive cultured stone on the three exposed sides (nets out about two inches)
My first idea is to run strips of 2-1/2″ osb up each side of the chimney approximately two inches out from the chimney and stop the rigid insulation at the strips of osb, then place a piece of channel made from coil stock on the osb that the cultured stone can be installed to and at the same time a vinyl “jay” channel can be installed to receive the siding panels.
Should fiberglass insulation be installed between the masonry block and the wall sheathing?
Any opinions would be appreciated.

You don't want to maintain a seam between the siding and the stonework. I would fabricate and install an "L" flashing at the corner under both the siding and stone. Attach it to the framing and block work, and seal it to your housewrap on the framing, and simply install some expanded metal over it on your blockwork and attach your stone over it. This will keep out water and then you can finish the termination from siding to stone in the most aesthetically pleasing fashion.
*Thanks for the reply, I now have a clear plan.HR
