I have avoided using vinyl as long as I could,… but times change. The last house had a 12/12 gable end over the garage, and I put those vinyl fishscale things on it, and hey,… it didn’t look too bad.
That trick is getting old though! Lots of folks are doing it now…and now I have two more to build, and must use a lot more vinyl this time. So I am trolling for ideas, links to ideas, and any advice anyone has about vinyl- good brands, bad brands, what to look out for etc. I know very little. I won’t be installing it myself. All comments appreciated.

The last siding I put on was Oracle, made by Crane siding( http://www.cranesiding.com ). It wasn't too bad at all. Nice vinyl thickness and everypart of it is solid core( has insulation on the back of it, corners and all). Check into different types of trim other than just J channel. Alcoa has some nice stuff like crown mold, dentil mold, fluted corners and wider lineals for window and door casings. Wolverine has siding you can hang with a roofing nail gun, hangs alot faster.

The reason I asked is, what's with the false miter angle on the lineals? I cut mine at 47* and seem to hold good and tight. Is there an advantage to cutting it as you did? Being a perfectionist, I'm always looking for those perfect details<G> A bad day at home is still better than a good day at work

Certainteed...good quality and a company that stands behind its product 100%. I had a concern with my siding, it was all replaced and my labor for R&R also reimbursed...$90 per sq.
