Some time ago I posted a question on proportions of wainscotting.
http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=33765.1
Well, I finally finished the dining room. It wasn’t jsut the wainscotting, but the crown and the cabinet as well. I didn’t finish putting in the lattice in the cabinet. You can see them sitting in the next room.
My girlfriend did the faux paint and I sprayed all the crown, cabinet and wainscotting witha HVLP gun.
A special thanks to piffin. I followed your suggestion.

very nice too!!!!
have you had the inaugural banquet yet???
I'm free most nightsLOL
OK, Do I make like Kung Fu Master and say, "Well done, Grasshopper"
or drawl it out slowly like John Wayne, "Well shucks Ma'am. 'Twernt nuthin'"
or like the baseball great, "It's sure good to see the chickens boils their own eggs"
or I can pretend to be myself and just say, "hey, we did allright on this one, didn't we?"
now about the girlfriend, You say she was happy with it?
I think it came out downright good for the asymetrical shape of the room! Enjoy it with pride. You deserve it.

spectacular work, I love the ceiling detail and paint.
nicely done.
I was just admiring that cieling and wondering whether Len contributed to the thread on red paint and how many coats it can take.

red paint.... I'm not a fan!
piffin,
The paint is a long story. It was a compromise. My girlfriend was a little frustrated with the progress. Not just me but with all the years events. She wanted to paint. We went to Lowes and looked through the faux paints and she picked a out what she wanted.
She was nervous that it wouldn't turn out well. So we decided to go ahead and paint the room before I was finished.
Yes, I explained to her that there would be damage to the paint and some nicks in the wall. For me it was important to make her happy. I also figured it was easier to repaint if there was damage.
Ok. Enough of the back story.
The ceiling she hasn't finished. She still has to put a glaze over it. So the red stripe your seeing is the finished coat. The recess has just the base coat. Eventually it will be all painted the same. I wanted to paint the recess darker but she isn't convinced of that.
One thing we didn't consider is it's going to be very hard to touch up. The base coat is put on and then two different color glazes were brushed and cheesclothed on. The base color is a dusty rose, almost pink. Once the glazes were put on it darkened it to the red you see. It was one coat of primer, one coat of base color, two different colors of glaze, brushed on, blotted off with cheesecloth, and that's it.
She did a great job and she's still happy with me.
Enjoy,
Len
So, she was impatient that you were not fast enough coming to completion.
How is it that women want a man who is slow in bed and fast getting the other things done?
I'll have to add that to the list of eternally unanswered questions...

The faster you are at other things the sooner you can get back in bed.

Len: That really looks nice...I love the proportion...colors and all
Nice job. My eye caught what I thought were hinges on the side lites. Am I right? Do you use them? What is the benefit?
We become by effort primarily what we end up becoming

Yes, those are hinges. The side lights open. We do use them. We wanted the room to be more formal and didn't think a slider would have looked as nice. That end of the house could have been a dead end. We wanted to be able to get air to flow through.
Enjoy,
Len
Len, looks great very nicely done!
