After stripping an 90+ year old white oak floor I ran into delays and then caught the flu from my kids this last weekend… Bottom line is the floor has been open to humid air for 2 weeks now. Should I do a once over screen or sand?
The strip started with 24 grit and worked up 5 weights to a 100 screen.

Better to do a light screening to take off any gloss from foot traffic.

Tryed to keep off it as much as possible. Have some kraft paer protecting the main paths.
biggest concern is inconsistent staining.
Even walking on top of the paper will burnish the wood and leavesa shinny line/area that will not take the stain as evenly
burnish ... that's the word I was looking for ... thanks for finding it.

The floors shouldn't absorb any real moisture any more than the books on the book cases do. Certainly woudn't hurt to screen em'.
What I always do when I only have one or two normal sized rooms to do rather than hassling to go rent a buffer is to put sheetrock screening in my palm sander and go over the floors with that. HAs always worked great for me and saves me the cost of the rental and by the time I go pick up and drop off the buffer I'm done already.
