I am enlarging and completely revovating a bathroom: new fixtures, floor, wall covering, etc. I would prefer to install a wall-hung toilet of the type I have seen in Europe. Any information on installing such a toilet and recommendations on which type to buy would be very helpful.
Thanks

You mean like this one? It's by Crane....
No. The toilets that I have seen have in-wall tanks to save space and are more elegant than this one. Two that I know of are Porcher Kimera and Giberit Tessera. My problem is that I would like to find someone who has installed one and any problems they may have had. I am particularly interested in the in-wall frame clearances and if it is possible to have the drain go sideways rather than down. I have contacted distributors for both makes above but got no more information than what I had already downloaded; no answer to my specific questions.
I have put in a few. Not my most favourite job.
The ones we have here are the 'in wall cistern' type. ( those the only ones I have seen anyhow )
They have a plastic tank that sits in the wall cavity. The depth is already just right for the 4" wall space. The only visible part is the flush button panel.
The tricky bit is setting up the metal plate that the toilet bolts onto. It has to be EXACTLY flush with the face of the surrounding framing. ( I make the whole wall flat first. That particular area I make sure its REALLY flat ) If its not then either the drywall that goes over it will break when the toilet gets first sat on OR when it is fitted after the wall tiles are done it will break tiles.
Ours come with a special bend that allows them to turn 90 degrees down and get connected to the sewer.
I have done one where we went sideways, but first it had to go down through the floor as per normal, then used the cavity below to turn 90 degrees and go outside. Nothing is impossible but they can be a trial. My plumber swears something horrible when he sees one. But, they are at times the only way to be able to fit a toilet in a small room. Damnit. :-)
Everything, 100% of it, depends on how you look at it.

I'm a poor guy with a less than 56K internet link. Can't handle graphs into the three digits. How about internet links when it's a manufacturer's graphic?
I hope you don't have any 3XL-sized relatives. Those 2x4s can only handle so much stress...
I can't imagine anyone trying to install any of the toilets I have seen in a 2x4 wall. All companies recommend a 2x6 wall with a doubling of the 2x6 where the frame is installed. I looked at one today that was on display for a trade show. The frame itself is made of heavy-duty 1.5" square tubing with many cross braces. The bolts holding the frame to the 2x6s and the toilet to the frame are 1/2". There was also angle-iron at the top and bottom of the 2x6s. Wall-hung toilets have been popular in western Europe for many years and I read that about 65% of all new toilets installed there are wall-hung. I think they have solved any problems of toilets falling off the wall!
Your comment reminded me of what some people said years ago when I installed my hot-water under-floor heating system. I was told dire things would happen and that I should install a hot-air system like everyone else. I have been walking on warm floors for years now and love it.
Ha Ha, I thought it said well-hung toilet....
