Wall oven mounted under counter

I do not have a make or model number, but it has been proposed to me to mount a wall oven under the counter in a base cabinet. There will be large range in the kitchen as well. This kitchen will actually be used, more go than show. I don’t see why a wall oven couldn’t be mounted in a base cab, its just that I don’t think I have ever seen it before. Is there anything I am overlooking?

    What you describe is a single oven/undercounter mount.

    Fairly common, but not widely used. Typically when there is no space for a double wall oven.

    Get the cut sheet on the specified unit before you do anything.

    The only drawback I see is that you have to bend over to use it, as with free standing ranges. Wall ovens are better on the back and reduce spillage. I'd like to see all appliances at standing up level, but it'll never happen.

    Have done this once - owner couldn't find exactly what he wanted in a range combo. It's often done when 2 ovens are needed and there's no wall space. My current client selected a Jenn-Air micro/convection oven for above her single oven. It has a drop-down door like a regular oven and seems to have pretty good space. That also could be built under the countertop. Most semi-custom mfrs offer base cabinets for under-counter micros and ovens that accommodate most of them.

    As Eric said, check the specs carefully. Also, if you are planning a cooktop above, watch for potential conflicts. I recently overheard a heated discussion between an owner and his cabinetmaker concerning the cooktop he couldn't install because of two objects trying to occupy the same space. Also remember to consider the door drop down space in the layout and provide some clear set-off space.

    Thinking about the comment on the most comfortable height, I once put a wall oven and micro in an island for a customer. Raised the units up so that the finished tops ended up at about 48", and continued that top across the entire width. In between was a 36" set-off counter with storage. Wasn't visually obtrusive and my client and her grandkids loved the access.

    Works well and is functional. Kitchenaid convection.

    So she has to bend over a bit... not all bad. ;-)

    I did it in my own kitchen with no problems, other than having to bend over to get stuff in and out, like we all had to do in the old days when a single appliance contained oven and cooktop.  It (Kenmore Elite) came with surprisingly good and easy to follow installation directions, for placing under a counter, in the wall or under a cooktop.
