It looks great! but you have to shellac it! Watch the color and grain just pop with brillance.. I love my black walnut when it's shellaced..
I second the shellac. I like a 2-1/2# cut.
I always seal before I install that way you get a coat on the backside.

You do not need to stain Walnut Walnut. It already is Walnut. I have not stained wood in over 30 years. I do use NGR Aniline dye for sap wood. From the looks of your project you have all heartwood. Here are a couple of pics of a Walnut, Rosewood and White Oak Chest. No stain. Just amber shellac.

The body of the chest was made from leftover Rosewood flooring therefor the backouts on the inside of the chest.
