Looking for TLB, John Deere 310/410, or equivalent. Slightly smaller machine okay. Mid 80s to early 90s model.
Prefer 24″ backhoe bucket, 18″ min.
I’m in south-central CT, RI and southern MA okay. I don’t have a trailer.
Yours Deere-ly,
Mongo

Hey Mongo!! See Blue...he's probably tired of ripping up phone lines by now!

Hey Mongo -- god to see your name come up on the screen.
Here's some links for shopping;

Delivery isn't that expensive if you can find a good deal anywhere in the Northeast.

Mongo, once you get the machine, could I borrow it some weekend?
<G>
If he says "no" you can come borrow mine anytime.
Heck, I might even pay you.

Running equipment in SF? Man, I'm giving Kevin notice this afternoon.Andy Engel, The Former Accidental Moderator
Markie ole boy! Hope all is well with you.
Dave, thanks for the links. I've hunted around on a few already, but a couple are new. I appreciate the info. Yeah, I disappeared off the forum for a while, been laying low. Slowly been polluting BT again starting last week.
Andy, hydraulics are a man's best friend, and a 410 has plenty for both of us. Tell you what, if I find one, I'll offer you the initial shakedown cruise of driving it to my house. Nothing like spending a weekend on the sideroads at 25 mph with a 90 hp "putt putt putt" rattling your eardrums. And I have a new stockpile of Belgian Trappist beer. Mmmmmmm.<g> Your eardrums may not recover, but it'll wash the dust off your palate.
Thanks guys,
Mongo
Mongo, I've spent many hours on a JD 410, including more than my share of bouncing down back roads (and even US 46) in NJ. With that Trappist thrown in, well, gee whiz, I'll bring my own earplugs.
Andy Engel, The Former Accidental Moderator
A new idea...since Dave is offering you his machine...when he lends it to you, will you lend it to me?
It'll save me a bundle of money, which I can then use to ensure that I have anough beer for all involved. I might even be able to spring for a grill full or T-bones.<g>
Hmmm, let's see . . . a grill full of T-bones, beer, good company, digging stuff up, pulling big things over (this machine has a hydraulic thumb) . . . and my truck gets about 15 mpg pulling the machine . . .
If I leave right now I could be there by Saturday morning.

Well...fill 'er up and get on the road!
Once you get here, we'll fill you up!
I'll be just down the road from you this weekend, Mongo, at the Scout Show at Hammonassett State Park. If you bring the cubbies, stop by. I'm with Troop 65.Andy Engel, The Former Accidental Moderator
My son transitioned to Boy Scouts this past Feb, his troop is going to a Jamboree in RI. I hadn't even heard about the Scout Show. He's not going to the Jamboree, though, as he has a soccer game Sat, and he HAS to play, as we've been short players for almost every game.
Thanks for the invite!
I think it's only $6 for a Scout to register and be able to participate, and the activities go until 5 or 6. It's supposed to be huge, with great fireworks later on.
I don't know about you and your son, but my oldest and I are enjoying Scouts way more than we did Cubs. My youngest crosses over this spring, which is going to halve the number of meetings I go to. The dynamics of having both my boys in the same troop is going to be interesting, though.Andy Engel, The Former Accidental Moderator

Try the auctions. There's some good deals there.
A big outfit, who I'm sure has auctions nearby would be Ritchie Brothers, rbauction.com
I've been to their auctions and its fun watching $100,000 dollar machines selling every minute, but they do have some less expensive items, usually later in the auction day.
C.
Just for a reference. I bought an '81 JD 450-C crawler loader, with the 9300 quick attach hoe, 24" bucket, for about 16M a couple years ago. About 4000 hrs on it, which is usually nearing half life on the motor, so I'm told. I would sell my left you no what, before I'd give up that machine! Good luck!
Brudoggie
Good score, Bru' -- I'm looking for a 350 or a 450 now.
That's a tried and true machine, hard to beat.
DRC
Dave,
Make sure you get at least a "C" series. Those Dry clutches on the "B'S" can be a pain, if you don't use it much. Can't go wrong with a JD though. Tough machine. Make sure you check the frame rails also, they have a tendancy to crack under extreme abuse. Ie, slaming down hard over terrain obstacles. Good luck!
Brudoggie
Thanks for the tip -- much appreciated.

"4000 hrs on it, which is usually nearing half life on the motor"
think you are being VERY conservative for only 8,000 hours life. Both JD and Cat figure 50,000 hours in generator service, which is less severe, but not that much if you watch your filters. Have a 440 C/loader and 440C/blade, both with over 10,000 hrs and still start every time. One is 'poppin' johnny engine , the other the old 2Cyl GM diesel. Did replace the injectors on the diesel once after it had been rolled on its side (too steep, >110/100 slope, love that ROPS!) and figured displaced fuel line deposits from rolling clogged and then caused one injector tip to blow off.
I try to plan for the worst case, as I'm a little hard on equiptment. At the rates you decribe that chunk of iron will out live me!

It's kinda far to go, but here's a line of equipment outside the local lumberyard...

Luka, Buddy...
Have I got a deal for you!
If I pick up one of those machines, I'll let you borrow it to drive it out here to the east coast. I'll let you use the machine for free, all I ask is that you pay for fuel.
Sounds like a square deal to me!<g>
HAHAHAHAHA
Watta deal !!!!
Watta deeeeal !!!!
he he he
With friends like you....
; )
Hey, hey, I know, let's get AndyE to come out here and use it to put in my drive, then he can have the joy of driving the thing all the way back there. He enjoys it so much that he'll gladly pay for all the gas. And just think of the great article he can make out of this. He could write the whole thing off......
