Last summer’s Homes issue included a discussion of product warranties and complications arising from them. What about remodeling services advertised by a large business, claiming a very long warranty, but later disclaiming responsibility for problems arising from faulty installation, saying that they are not responsible for the local contractor who actually did the work? They then claim that the only warranty with the advertised long life is the one from the manufacturer of the products used, and it only covers defects in the material arising from manufacturing flaws. Does the business that advertises and makes the initial contacts really have no responsibility for the job being done correctly?

everyone is subject to the Moss-Magnuson warranty act
it's a federal law..
it always seems to me that the ones who claim the longest warranty (in the construction industry ) are the first ones to go out of business and leave everyone holding the bag....
tailight warranty...
*Yea Mike and If all there giveing is a manufacturers warranty The homeowner gets that anyway provideing the installer didnt install it incorrectly. I dont see what the advantage is for going to any of those big guys then. Id rather go with someone who is smaller and has a rep. To me the small guy wants to protect rep and you'll definatley get better customer service. After all isnt customer service whats it all about anyway?
