Hey all, I’ve been contacted by this one guy who needed some remodeling done in my area. I went to his house to see what exactly he wanted to do, and to meet the guy in person. Well, he’s not remodeling his bathroom. That much was apparent from the moment I’ve stepped into the house. It wasn’t a house per se, it was more of a business built in a suburban home. There were server racks everywhere, computers, etc.
Anyway, the guy wants me to drop a few walls and build him a proper server room. After negotiating the costs of this deal, he tells me that he’s short on cash right now, but that he’s willing to pay me more if we negotiate a monthly payment system. Now, here’s the issue. The guy is running some sort of online casino from this place.
I went back and did some digging. According to this source https://www.nodeposithero.com/feature/us-gambling-law/ the state of North Carolina hasn’t made this stuff legal. I guess my question is, would I get in trouble if I take on this job? I know that I’m not participating in his illegal operation, but him sending me payments every month can make it look like I do. It’s good money, but I’d rather skip it than end up in prison. Any thoughts?

Monthly payment system?
How bout you get all the payment now and then show up monthly to do the job?
best!
I wouldn't worry about getting in trouble, I'd worry about getting paid at all.
The man is a criminal. Ever do business with criminals? His claim that his illegal business doesn't provide enough cash to pay you promptly is a huge red flag. Most criminal businesses have tons of cash to spend.
IMHO, run away. Good luck.
More red flags than a communist workers parade. Run!
The "good money" will likely go to lawyers for one reason or another.
:-) You have to ask? Tell him you take PayPal. Try to get all the money up front ‘cause he’ll be gone soon.
