REempire | Posted in General Discussion on November 20, 2009 08:50am

My Maytag wsher will fill w/ water but not move to next cycle.  Moved it manually but does not come on. Have ck’d breakers, plug, emptied the tub of the laundry and such.  Any suggestions before I call a repairman? Thanks.

What model is it? We had a Neptune that did that. Was a motor control board. Junked machine, bought new one - new board would cost half the price of a new machine.

    Try:

    And/Or:

Not sure either will lead you correctly to the answer for your problem, but it's cheaper than a repairman at this stage.

    Good luck.

    Lid switch.

Lid switch tells it not to go if the lid is open, you need to pull the top off to see it,

2 wires, short them together and see what happens. (unplug first, connect wires together, plug in)

He did not say, but for a top loader it will still fill and start with a bad lid switch.Just won't spin..

You're right, assumed a top loader.

Some will not do anything but fill with lid open.

Who knows, not enuff info I guess.

It depends on how old it is. My 3 year old Whirlpool fills and waits for you to close the lid before it does anything.

Got kids?  Check pump.  I pulled 4 socks-only-smaller (two year old) out of my brand new washer and found two more in the rubber cowling around the door. That was a front loader.

    How old is the unit?

If you rotate the knob around, do you ever get ANY motor action -- agitate, spin, pump?

Is it filling all the way? It could be the water level sensor, I suppose. Or the timer.

Yeah, the lid switch is a possibility. I believe ours will fill but not agitate or spin with the lid open.

It was the lid switch. Thanks for everyone's advice.

No, my husband lifted off the top (not the lid..the entire top) of the washer and saw the problem once people on Breaktime helped him target the most likely problem. I'm appreciative. All in one day, my double oven , the washer and the garage door remote went on the fritz. Thought there was a poltergiest going through our house!

Yeah, the ghost deal. I have them for real here, they don't mess too much with mechanical things, but opening and closing windows and doors is a great pastime it appears.

            Oh yeah, me too.

I dropped an air stapler and broke the safety nose, and I jammed a staple or splinter in it to make it work till I could fix it right. As I had it pointed RIGHT AT MT FACE I thought, "Hmmm, I wonder if it'll shoot now?"

I pulled the trigger, and lucky for my eyes, I had my finger too close to the nose and shot my finger.

    RE,
You're lucky. Sounds like the timer.
Had a customer (Sears) that had her timer go bad on the "fill" cycle. Damaged entire house for $1,000s.

I see it was the lid switch.

If a timer starts acting up it could do as I mentioned. Won't always stop at not spinning, etc.

    Pete
