Hi All.
See pic, which is an excerpt from our 1st floor plan.
The washer is a big ol’ HE3t, which shakes the sufferin’ carp out of the floor in the spin cycle. When in the laundry room, you can feel the joists springing up and down.
I’m worried about the entry area, which we plan to tile. Fortunately the joists run vertically in the pic which minimizes the transmission over to the entry. The John Bridge Deflect-o-Meter shows a deflection of L / 458, which is technically rated for tile, but I have my doubts considering the proximity of the washer and the strength of the vibration.
We don’t plan to tile the laundry room, just the entry and bathroom.
I’m thinkining about putting the W & D on a raised pad of 1″ ply, screwed and glued to the 5/8″ subfloor. Waddaya think?
Thx.

Great idea, thanks.
If you've got access to the joists from below, why not just stiffen them up. Solid cross-blocking. Doubling up on the joists. Adding a "T" stiffener. etc. I'd do that even if I was going to put the washer on some type of isolation mount.
Shoulda woulda coulda.... but no longer. Didn't know the vibration would be this bad.
