Grant,
Had the new hip put in on the 5th- then back home on the 7th.
We had a really good snowstorm last Monday and yesterday I got a call from the lady who owns this Remax RE office.
Their staff and client entrance is just below the major ice hanging down.
I can’t remove the ice 6 days out from surgery- but I can write a quote to solve the problem when I can climb in a month.
Gotten 4 jobs due to this storm in the past two days.

I used to work next to a cell tower. We had an ice storm, then it started warming up. There were long ice daggers falling everywhere. They made a fluttering noise on the way down, scary stuff.
Awesome frieze detail. I love it.
Brian,
This was built in 1912 after a fire wiped out this part of Bangor.
It was built as one of many grammer schools in the city.

I'd love to get paid to build something like that. It's gorgeous. Heal up quick and enjoy your holiday Walter. I hope you're back at it soon.View Image
Thanks Brian,
Hope you have great Holidays too.
I'm chomping to get back to duty for both the exercise, mental health and bucks!

"Awesome frieze detail"And I thought you were being sarcastic what with the iceikles.
Do you fix it with roofing or insulation?

Jon,
The cure will be multi-part some roof work and some spray foam in the attic space.
The roof work will consist of taking down the flimsey alum. gutter that is hung out beyond the crown moulding- which is actually a wooden gutter which I will reline. Some better snow guards and pigtails to retain the snow further up the roof. Lastly some heat tape action to keep the downspouts draing in below freezing weather.

I was wondering about you. Glad to hear it went well - hopefully this one will take. I've got some stuff to post - been burning the candle on both ends lately, but it's been pretty interesting stuff. I may have time to unload my camera tonight. Heal quick, man.

Grant,
I drove today after only 6 days out from the install- but I was tired after 3 hours in town.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your recent jobs.
Walter
<after only 6 days out from the install>
I like that!
Forrest - glad yer back
Forrest,
Thanks for the kind words.
I'll be gaining every day now- just can't overdo it .
Have a great Holiday.
Walter
Walter, is there any way you can simply act as supervisor and have the younger/spry guys doing the work? A little less grunt work would probably make recovery time less of an issue.

John,
Knowing I was going to be out of commission for three months led me to laying off my only employee until I'm healthy again.
This gal can get any other roofer to get this snow and ice down in the short term, but it can be a real nice job for me for Spring to ensure it doesn;t happen again next year.

Great to hear ya doin so well Walter, youse are tough up there in Maine.
I could get them icecicles down for ya, hand me sling shot..LOL
Keep active a lil more each day I hear is the best therapy, and whatever ya do, stay off the slippery ice.

Duane,
After laying around all Fall waiting for the new hip and not able to do anything- calls like these got the juices flowing again!
A nice technical job right at eaves height.
Yep ice and me don't see eye to eye just yet.
