Water-based finish over paste wax floors

Hello,
New to the forum. I hope I’m not asking something alreday covered in the archives.
I have hardwood t&g flooring in south Louisiana over a crawlspace. It had been carpeted for years and recently finished with paste wax several times. The house was built in 1952.
My wife wants a high gloss finish. I would like to avoid sanding the floor as it is in remarkbly good shape. What is the best finish method to achieve a high gloss finish? How ‘glossy’ can paste wax get? (maybe I’m not applying correctly or using the wrong paste wax)
If stripping is necessary, can it be accomplished without sanding? Chemical stripper of some type? Can chemical stripper be cleaned up for what I assume to be a water-based finish?
Lastly, (glancing at my PowerBall ticket) what would a pro charge?
Thanks guys/gals?
Bob
