Hey guys,
I am getting ready to install a patio cover that will be shingled and attached to the side of my house with vinyl siding. I plan to remove the siding and attach the ledger board properly to the rim board. I was wondering when you do the flashing on the ledger and then install the siding and J channel, what is preventing water from getting in on the side of the ledger board between the j channel and the board and causing issues there. I have read and talked to many people about the flashing and everything is about flashing the top and bottom. The J channel isnt going to keep a driving rain out of the spot between it and the ledger. Help? Ideas? thanks.

you know to ask, that's a big deal with most vinyl installations.
Consider the band much like a window or door opening. Treat it as such. Here's something from Mike Guertin, a FHB contributor.

I wish I had peg'd an article that I came across a while ago. It gave the how to for worry free vinyl installation. He even went so far as to test and show his techniques b/4 it got completely covered up.
The gist of it was that he overflashed the lower siding pcs under the window so that any water that passed, was directed out.
That was very odd-and if you think about it-what should be done. Sure, there's weep holes on all the siding, but the fact that it (siding) "hangs" means there plenty of room behind the nailing flange for it to go by and then to collect somewhere-it all don't exit the envelope.
I'll look hard and hope to find the video link to that vinyl technique.
You sure a ahead of the game, knowing that just nailing up J isn't going to prevent water intrusion.
Same goes for the corners.
Best of luck.
