I have water stains on my rough sawn white pine beams. I do not want to sand them because it will change the texture, I have already tried the bleach/water treatment to no avail(maybe I didn’t scrub long enough). I have even worse stains on the T&G pine boards that rest on the beams. They are high up and very hard to get to what with the beams in close proximity and being flat. Maybe I should just stain the darn things, but I was hoping for a natural look.

what was the source of the leak?
if the problem was condensation, try undiluted bleach. maybe saturate a rag and fasten it to keep bleach in contact with the surface for a period of time. be sure to protect floor materials with plastic.
if this doesn't work...
i believe i used a granular bleach for a painting project (bleaching cabinets). can inquire at paint stores about this.
is it possible that the stains are rust stains (from rusty leaking pipes)? a paint store should be able to supply you with a product for treatment.
if these treatments fail or are inappropriate, you're left with dilute acids (ie. vinegar). check with the paint store.

*ps...all this is best done with a respirator, goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and good ventilation.regards, brian
*Most likely from leached tannins and such, perhaps you would have better luck with a wood brightener like Dekswood or something.
