good day folks;
We are currently building a custom home (in Vancouver, BC) that is 90% concrete, with most of it being buried in the mountain. Any suggestions on what membranes you are passionately for or against? torch on? poly-urethane? E-Pro?
thanks, Kia (admin)

I'm a major bentonite fan. Here's a recent thread 67424.1 What I'd use in your situation is Swelltite membrane http://www.cetco.pl/e/swelltite.htm If you want to go crazy, also use bentonite ropes from Volclay in the cold joints (footing/wall).
The advantage of bentonite over all other membranes is that water can't move behind it, if punctured. Required backfill pressure is 20 psf.
This is assuming that you aren't going for annual heat storage, where our (PAHS) insulation umbrellas make waterproofing membranes redundant. We use solely 6 mil poly. The umbrella must be carefully installed.
Care to offer any more design details?
