I was browsing around the Minnesota Historical Society’s online photograph collection, and came across these photos of the Watkins house in Winona from 1927-1929. I figured you’d find them interesting – the first batch were taken during construction, and the second batch were taken after it was completed.

not for nothing but who were they?
The Watkins company was started just after the Civil War by a man selling liniments and other home remedies, spices, kitchen products and so on. They expanded and eventually had thousands of door-to-door salesmen selling hundreds of different products; I believe at one time they were one of the largest companies of their kind in the country. They were bought out in the late 1970s, and I think nowadays they've mainly become an online retailer.
I think Basswood has done some work on this house (or at least posted pictures of it.)
Thanks, I remember them now.
Thanks for posting those links.
Some wonderful details in that place...to say the least.
I wish I got to work on that place (just gawked and took pics). I'll see if I can find those pics.
Cheers,
Bass
