I need help on how to build-up wavy course shingles on the exterior of our new home. Wavy course describes a random curving pattern built-up over the next. Saw this produced in an Architectural digest magazine article on a home. Technique ,details etc… Thanks.

Terry, nothing "random" about it... this needs exacting layout, a dryfit/scribe/cut proceedure, and a great command of perspective. Tell you how? On a post? You've got to do one to know how.

I've been waiting to find a book, or rather someone else who has had this problem, and so far all I can see is that it would be something which needs to addressed one shingle at a time. The Isaac Bell House in Newport R.I. was recently reshingled I understand maybe someone involved could comment on this specific aspict. I've built four homes and reno'ed one other and used shingle siding to get the old fashioned A&C cottage look but haven't tryed the wavey shingle look because of the fact that all I can see is the labour intensive way of custom cutting each shingle individually. So if any one can sugest a faster way Please fill me in.Thanks snowless on Vancouver Island.

....depending on the area to be covered....take a digital photo of the elevation. convert it to scale..
lay out a template with battens to acheive a true curve..tansfer the curves to 1/4" plywood templates.
set up a laser level on a tripod... transfer registration marks to the building paper / tyvek (so you can write on it)
move your template up each course..... or as they said in "The Music Man" ....use the think method........ have a ball
or do it whatever way you come up with....
