wax on a hardwood floor – is that a no-no?
I have recently heard that you shouldn’t use MinWax on a poly-urathane floor (mine is the old oak flooring from the 60’s). Is this true? I heard it makes it soft or something?

MinWax is a brand. They make both water and solvent based urethane coatings.
If wax is on a floor (old strip oak from the 60's), then a simple screening will not remove the wax and a full sand is necessary. That's the only interaction I know of.
And here's one-never use Murphys Oil Soap on a wood floor.
I don't really want to screen the top coat, just add a nice shine to the existing coat is all.
You just want to use Minwax on an old oak floor? Go for it. I spent my growing up years on my hands and knees waxing the floors in our house. Sure didn't like it much though.
Which MinWax ?
What Minwax product are you talking about?
If you are talking about their stain - that won't do anything for the sheen.
If you are talking about their poly products - as Calvin said, they have both oil and water base.
If you are talking about their paste wax - that will work just fine over whatever old finish you have. It would need to be cleaned and sanded in the future to apply a new clear finish.
