A local supplier is quoting me almost $16 (Cdn.) per piece for Weiss-coated Hardi. This is about 30% more than regular factory painted but apparently it doesn’t need a final brushed-on coat for the 25 year warranty (there are two coats applied at the factory). Weiss’s website is pretty sketchy about warranty coverage.
Anyone have an opinion on this stuff?
Thx,
Scott.

I'm not familiar with that coating and I use Certainteed rather than Hardy F/C as a general rule.
But having put up quite a bit of the factory stained or painted, I'd be reluctant to go for a non factory finish, especially at the greater expense, unless color selection was a major issue.
We've done some of our own staining on site, but it's a bit tricky and labor intensive.
The factory stains and colors are very durable and consistent and require only some job-site touch-up on cut edges.
Were I to avail the services of an after market coating, I'd want some assurance that the consistency of the color and the coating was uniform from plank to plank.
Even with factory colors, if you run short and need to order more, they'll want a sample piece from the unit you've been using to assure a true match on your additional order.
