I just added a 1000 gallon well storage tank. The two inch threated pipe fitting is plastic and so is the male threade thing I’m attaching.
I put both teflon tape and plumber’s paste (says for plastic and metal) on it and it leaked. The guy at the local hardware store, not a box store, said just wrap it four times with teflon tape – it still leaks.
Although it is a minor leak, it is still annoying. I’m about ready to just glue it in there.
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks

don't give up easy....
My first thought would be to try a new male threaded thing if at all practical.
icerunner,
Wrap it 10 or as many as it will let you thread the fitting on.

a. like oldhad says, new male fitting - plus, if pvc, clean the mold lines off with a pipe die, it you dont have a 2" die, clean the mold lines off carefully with a knife
b. pipe dope on male threads, 3 or more wraps of 3/4" wide or wider tfe tape, more pipe dope
never had one like that leak.
tighten until you see the pvc slightly deform under the wrench flats.
YOu might try wrapping the entire fitting with self fusing silicone tape (ex. X-treme brand tape).I've made some emergency repairs with this stuff under 50 psi pressure and it's held way longer than I though it would. If it doesn't work at least it is easy to cut off with a razor knife w/o leaving any tape residue. This way you're back cleanly at square one and only out the cost of roll of tape and the time it took to wrap it up.
Thanks! The self sealing tape did the job!
thread like........
I suggest using some ball wicking wound tightly around the threads, and then 5 - 6 wraps of quality 3/4" teflon tape. Some types of plastic do not seal well with liquid pipe joint compounds. I would also put a small piece of pipe, or a snugly fit wooden dowel into the adapter socket to prevent distorting the fitting as you tighten it.
Thanks so much for all the repiles!
I did try a new male threaded PVC with no avail. Some great ideas that I'll try.
Again, thanks.
On at least one occasion I found that I simply needed to tighten the fitting quite a bit tighter than seemed "right". You need to get the connection tight enough that the plastic deforms slightly.
But I've also had actual defective fittings a couple of times.
If nothing else works try a galvanized nipple with tape and thread dope.
