What are the best middle-of-the-road windows for New Construction
Hi All-
Is it worth the money to get a name brand, like Andersen, Marvin, or Pella. Is it better to get a higher quality, but locally sourced window, compared to a lower quality name brand…like the Andersen 100 Series? Thanks!

Uh, depends.
There's way too many variables to say definitively one way or the other. Even looking at the Andersen 100 it will depend on if you want double hung or casement. The casements are fairly good and have a decent air seal, while I've heard varying opinions on the double hung.
Ive been installing windows for years and the gentleman is right about preference. Personally i dont care for double hung. Twice the amount of things can go wrong. Mainly balance. And sometimes even shitting them can be a pain cause youll have to hokd top one up to shit bottom then latch. If your a clean freak on gkass their a plus if you dont want to go outside to clean. But i dont lnow to many peopke thst can keep the outside of their glass clean and you have to consider the cist as well. And vomoare the price betwern double and triple pane. Then compare the higher cost of tripke to the amount of energy comparison to the two. I think youll find its not as big a savings as they advertise. Andnouse differance betweennthe two. I vouldnt yell the difference. Now you put a double or tripke against single. Single gets blowed away. When you go to pick a window look at tge way their made. The welds, are they clean and smooth or raised and jaggid. the sealer, is ckean around the edges ir oozed out all over the gkass. Look at a cutout view of the baffles. The more their are the better it is in my book. And the midt importsnt thing, the installer. And just becausr they say their certified, doesnt mean sqwat. Important decision. Take uour time and look at all the reviews you can. Good luck to ya my friend. I forgot. User 67 is right about the seal too on the double hung. Like i said double the yrouble. But the cool factor or sale factor could way in
I will never use Andersen windows and sliders again. Last time I did they short shipped items and refused to talk to a customer and told me I had to go to the dealer. After 6 months I gave up trying to get the missing parts.
Customer service is important and it has been very good with Milgard and Pella and Jeld-Win windows. For areas where outside noise is a problem the Quiet Line windows from Milgard are fantastic and a big step up from double pane windows.
