I just read a interesting article in modern woodworker with that title. Here are some excerts from the article ” With more and more US wood products being made with components out sourced from overseas, just exactly what does the label “Made in the USA” mean today….. It goes on to say…”Although the Federal trade Commission(FTC) has said in recent months that it is going to police “Made in USA” labeling more aggressively than in the past, Whats realy drivnig this confusion is about how to docket wood products at customs and what tariffs are applicable.”
“This issue becomes very important when manufacturers are selling with in NAFTA countries, for example say Baston ( VP of the governmental affairs for the American Furniture Manufacturers Association ) ” If it is indeed a product that is made in the USA , it goes into Canada or Mexico with virtually no duties. But if the components add up to a substantial enough part of the product that a manufacturer might lose the “Made in America” designation, that would have implications on tariffs”. So what do you guys think.

According to te article, pieces of your glasses are made in other countries and assembled here . That is just enough pieces are made here for them to be called made in america. Darkworksite4: When the job is to small for everyone else, Its just about right for me"

I bought a new telephone today at Radio shack after looking at Walmart and Ames. Nine tenths of them are made in China. I'm wondering if the old Hong Kong manufacturers are now considered China for labeling purposes. I finally found a decent phone made in Thailand.
I also bought a pair of summer shoes. The ones made in China were about a third of the price of the ones that I bought and about a third of the comfort level. They also had the "Made in China" label pretty well hidden compared to the Made in Mexico ones I bought. Never did see any Made in America labels all day.Excellence is its own reward!
pif- i wish i had some kind of a passionate for the lack of a better word "eruption". about this situation, it just seems to me. i'll take it in my own hands, as far as my purchases. but that seems to be a exercise in futility, and then i looked to my left and there my glenlivet seems to look some what inviting and than to my right at brand new high tech T.V., aaahhh s*** i'm just another hippocrate. this subject disgust's me , but i'll trudge along with my position . and take smaller sips at the very least. staywell the bear
