Hello all,
I could use some advice as I am about to purchase some plumbing fixtures
What’s the difference (what’s better) between the following:
Toto vs Kohler
Hans Grohe and Grohe
Shower/whirlpool-tub: Fiberglass vs acrylic vs vikrel
Also, has anyone used Maax, specifically the Apex 108 in the Villa collection (not the stuff from Home Depot but from a wholesaler), or the Sterling products?
Counter tops. Corian or Swanstone, or Terrastone?
Thanks for the advice, turtleboy

With regards to countertops, Corian/Swanstone/Tere-Stone (if it is the Taylor Tere-Stone we're talking about), IMHO Swanstone is definitely the cheap younger brother of the other two. Corian, is well, Corian, which is to say it is expensive, but if you like the looks it is a good product, and Tere-Stone is a good looking and sturdy product. I happen to like it. Swanstone is cheaper, and the tops are much thinner and seem to mark up more easily.
Regarding "Shower/whirlpool-tub: Fiberglass vs acrylic", there was a "What the Difference" section on that in FHB about 2 or 3 years ago.
Turtle:take a cruise to Robinson Supply.. their showroom in Cranston ( the BathSplash) is in the same area as Golfer's Wharehose.. they have everything you just asked about..
I've installed a Maax. not the model you want.. but nice stuff.. pricey..
the Toto will outflush anything else on the market.. especially the Drake model
Grohe & Hans Grohe are two seperate companies.. split off by two brothers in some kind of dispute.. both are great
oh.. and here's that site I was telling you about..

The project is moving along... at a turtle's pace, but I have no one to blame but myself. I added another 2x10 to the headers and will use 2x10 plates and studs to complete the wall that will support the transition from the lower roof to the upper roof. I took your advice about supporting the "perlin" and rafters with this wall. But rather than making two walls back to back I figured I'd just use a few 2x10's. Way over built but at least it looks right and I can put the studs where ever I want.
The work would go a little faster but the PAM auto feed screw gun keeps jambing up, even with the PAM screws. The 1-3/4" were fine but the 3" keep getting cought on the nose piece.
Thanks for the advice on the plumbing supplies. In the last week me and Jill and baby Caroline have made our way to Shetucket, Ardente, Richard Brothers, and Robinson's bath splash. I liked the bath splash, but as far as customer service i liked Shetucket or at least the woman that worked with us. The only bumber is that no matter where you go, no one seems willing to deal regardless of what you'll be spending, so we may end up using a couple different places to get everything we'll need. I figure, that we'll go with Grohe faucets and Maax tub/shower. The maax tub/shower was about 100 to 150 bucks more than a Lasco acrylic unit. I never thought it would take so much time to get all the info for all the different things in a bath.
Caroline has been awsome. She was with us for two of our visits to the plumbing supply places. Each visit was two hours minimum and she just slept in the baby carrier. She's probably behaving because she knows that she'll be using some of the things we are buying. She's been going to bed at 11 and getting up at 3:30 and that's it for the night. So all and all that's not too bad.
I want to thank you again for coming out to the house and your advice on the problems that I'm facing. Thanks too for the web site I'll be checking it out soon.
Turtleboy
ps did you land that job that you spoke of, and if it's in the area I'd like to check it out if you don't mind.
Take care, Kaiser and Baron said hello
Turtle: absolutely, we're backfilling the foundation on Monday...so we've got our work cut out for us until Christmas anyways....
