I think you'd have to do some sort of scientific survey. Or else ask a kitchen designer -- I'm sure they're always honest!
But...
To call oneself an expert shows a lot of humility to ask for opinions.
The point is that no one really "knows" -- there are just a lot of opinions, most unjustifiable. To determine which designs are "best return on investment", to the extent that that's even possible, you'd have to somehow compare how well different options sell, controlling for the variables of location, market conditions, etc. It's probably something that could be done, within a limited range, by gathering a lot of statistics and doing a lot of interviews and surveys, but that's something the "expert" should be doing.
