I used to buy this stuff in Canada called “clear wood preservative”. It was available in the hardware store, sat right next to the Cuprinol, and I think was pretty much the same stuff but not green. I believe it contained zinc arsenate. You slapped it on, and wood didn’t rot. You could paint over it, or even mix it into paint (outdoor use only of course!).
Now I can’t find it anywhere. Not HD or the local hardwares, and I get a mystified response when I ask for it. Anyone know where I can get some?Did someone decide it was too toxic for the average consumer?

I don't believe it is made anymore, Pete ........ check the Sherwin Williams website. Woodlife might be a good alternative if you are going to paint over it. A lot of good products are modified or gone due to VOC compliance.
*I'm not sure of the zinc arsenate but I use much of the Olympic brand "clear wood preservative" and buy it in 5 gallon buckets. Typically I don't use it as a final coat but I back-prime with it and give quick soak to trim ends. Is very handy for treating brickmold which has vey short life.
