Chuck is on backwards.
Left handed pipe wrenches.
The chuck is so massive that it takes two backwards pipe wrenches.
Hey,
did the wrenches come with directions?? If they had, the guy doing the illustration might have known how they are supposed to work!!

Must be a craftsman?
They figure if you're backwards enough to buy their tools, you won't put the pipe wrenches on right, and will end up doing it correctly...............(-:
The brain is a wonderful organ; it starts working the moment you get up in the morning, and does not stop until you get to work.
Guess some people don't like working with leverage
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, Professional build the Titanic.
Fess up Kevin, you bought Ryobi...............

Well, it does have an oriental sounding name but this foreign tool came with a 1/2" square drive, a 1/4" hex quick change chuck and a 1/2" keyless chuck (as configured in the illustration)...
Oh yea, and one other uncommon feature - a pair of 15.6 volt batteries.Kevin Halliburton

i don't get it. exactly what's supposed to happen after you put a pair of pipe wrenches on and then take them back off? does it work by some sort of opposing polar magnetic field thingie? is that why you need to remove them in opposite directions? would aluminum framed wrenches work too? if you don't have two wrenches of the same size, material and make does that mess things up? would just a couple big steel bars work in a pinch? does it bother you that you own a fairly complex tool designed by people who don't understand something as simple as a friggin pipe wrench?
showed the drawing to my wife- who is actually very handy and an excellent third and fourth hand on stuff like plumbing, but i'm not sure has ever actually used a pipe wrench in her life. in about two seconds she asked, "won't they just fall off if you turn them that way?"

just as a side note, I bought a new adjustable wrench yesterday, (cresent, not plumbing type) and it has a arrow on the handle pointing clockwise. I guess it doesnt work the other way. : ) Justus Koshiol

You mean you didn't go back and get the anti-clockwise one as well ?

i'm surprised every screwdriver, wrench, ratchet, socket, etc isn't emblazoned with the instruction/warning "Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey"
m
That "Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey" thing is too wierd for me.
I taught my boys "right is tight, left is loose" so they don't sound like sissies. We are all born naked and screaming. If you're lucky that sort of thing won't stop there.
Thanks a lot Boss, now when ever I tell someone the secret password I'll feel like a sissy. For years righty tighty lefty loosey has just rolled off my lips, but now I feel like a dork.
From now on I'll just tell people "Just pick a direction and haul away!, it will either come off, or you'll break the bolt, either way you will have acomplished your mission. : )

Maybe its a english tool they also drive on the wrong side of the street..ect..
Darkworks: Its all 'bout da squilla
Depends on what hemisphere your using it in.
I was once working in a Lab where next door there were 4 women doing research. One day they came over to my lab trying to get some help loosening a fitting. They pulled the "We need a BIG STRONG MAN to help us," thing, trying to get me over there. I went over and watched one of them straining with all her might on the fitting, quietly reached over with one hand and turned the wrench the other way, easily taking off the fitting without much effort.
"You don't need a big strong man, you just need to know righty-tighty lefty-loosey," I said, and walked out.
Thats funny!!!
Frankly, with the legal system the way it is, I'm surprised they do not have a warning to remove the battery or not to press the trigger prior to using the pipe wrenches. I can just picture some idiot.....
