Depends on what it is but usually we use 8 penny stainless ring shank nails and we install thousands of feet a month. with never a call back.
Composite nailing
How anout white colored material? Do you still use SS nails? Are they visible?
If it's not going to be painted, PVC I assume, I'd use a lot stainless finish nails. Yes, the 8 penny nails have visible heads.
Trim attachment
If it's PVC, 15 gauge ss finish nails have been recommended to me. I've done all the corner trim boards on my house this way.
Nails with heads are best. Stainless is best. I have had finish nails fail with PVC that expands and contracts, especially southern exposure. If you use finish nails on Facia, hope the gutter guys use long enogh screws too. We have also used colored head screws. Most composites I have used have matching screw colors and come with touchup kits. Once, in the old days, we even prepainted Galvanized Framing nails for air guns. Sometimes they even stayed painted!
GRK makes trim screws with colored heads to match composite trim.
I've seen another compant that sells screws that you countersink. Included with the screws are plugs that match the color of the material. But I can't recall the name of that company.
