Its really crazy, your $100 Sears sawzall that is 5 years old breaks a trigger switch (probably got dirt in it using it to cut roots of small trees). Sears want $22 plus S&H for a new switch, but only $59 at the local store for a whole new sawzall, on sale – usually $89.
Really crazy – it makes you wonder what Sears or anyone else pays for these things ($15 for the whole machine) ??
Seems wasteful to toss the tool, but thats what I did. What do you do?
I am not sure buying a real expensive one is the answer – the switch for it might be $50 ??
What do most people do??

buy the part from Millwaukee
*You might find that DEwalt made your saw and most big towns have a dewalt center.
*Hmmmm....not sure what you'd do in this situation. Sears, in my region, is akin with Ryobi, which is real, real low on the totem pole of tools. Just had my PC sidewinder "refurbed"; new power cord, baseplate, brushes, and arbor; $60. It's like a whole new tool, after five years of daily use, for half the cost of new. Advice: Don't buy Sears. Buy a real tool.
*IMHO there is only one sawzall, and that's the SAWZALL as made and originated by Milwaukee. Pay the money and get their most powerful model. If the switch does break, and it costs $30, well, you will never be throwing your money away because this is what you can call a 'lifetime tool'.
*Yea sears got me on the bucket for my shop vac almost 1/2 the price for a new shop vac.
*Yeah, the best thing to do is buy new tools and send the old ones to me. I'll dispose of them for you guys.Jason, are you sayin' you had to have your PC saw rebuilt after 5 years? That's pitiful man. Get a Mag 77 next time. You'll get 2 or 3 times the life out of it.
*Jim...yep, that four story fall really did in the baseplate...all the other stuff were "extras". Looking at a new Bosch wormdrive...but you don't see too many of those (wormdrives) around here.
*Have a PC 12V cordless drillBattery charger went, new $75Have a 19.2V one now.Must admit the old had a keyed chuck, new is keyless ($25 to convert)
