I’m replacing the exterior corner boards on my house and prefer to use wood as a replacement. I own a brake and will be wrapping them with aluminum coil stock.

What sort of wood is typically used in this application? I obviously don’t need appearance quality, but also don’t like the lowest quality stock that has some sizable knots in it. I don’t have that many pieces to replace so I figured I could soak the bottom parts of the board with a laminating epoxy that I have quite a bit of. It essentially turns the bottom part of the wood into a plastic.

Would #2 pine be a good choice? Not sure about its overall stability but I like the price. Thanks!
