What Surprised You Most About Building Your Own Home?
When I was building my home, I thought I had everything planned perfectly, but wow—so many unexpected things came up! From dealing with delays to realizing I underestimated the cost of certain upgrades, it was a rollercoaster. Have you built your own home? What was your experience like? Any tips or things you wish you’d done differently?

As someone who builds homes for many people, we always try to get them to begin with a home plan. A lot of people dream about designing their home from the ground up, but that usually leads to decision fatigue (like you mentioned), cost overruns, and unexpected expenses. But, if a client starts with one of our home plans, it is far simpler and more predictable, even if we customize that plan for them.
It is also faster, too. https://coolspringconstruction.com/
It's a shame that all the "advertisements" and spam can't have their own section. Is there even an admin person looking out for this site.
Is there an administrator watching……
Beats me.
I had a contact I could email and get help as needed.
He left last year.
I had another contact in his place. Regretably, she left as well.
One more I could email showed up. Up until a month or so ago, she would nicely reply to my criticisms, suggestions and pass along help needed by a poster or 2.
I haven’t heard back from her in a while.
Seems nobody gives a hoot about the barrage of spam, posting problems, nor the big boobed pop up ads that appear occasionally.
Sad state of affairs here anymore.
Artificial I’s.
I’d say a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench. With that I’d say every homeowner should know how to turn their utilities on and off. Know where the water and gas mains are and how to shut them off in an emergency. Also know how to reset an electrical breaker and flip the main breaker off if necessary.
Why did you include a spam link?
It makes your post just a bunch of blah blah blah.
Still time to make amends and delete it.
