Did get a metal pail with two spring clamps clamped on the rim. In the bucket were plastic safety goggles, a 41" rubber bungee strap, a 5/8&9/16 open/closed end wrench set and a 16' tape measure I'm afraid to open 'cause I think it will break, all made in India and surrounded in the bottom of the pail by shredded up cardboard. Roar! I smiled and said thanks. But my six year old nephew picked out a magnifying glass with a little screwdriver deal that screwed into the handle for his uncle. Hrmphh!!! THAT was the coolest gift of all. My sister-in-law's going to kill me 'cause I think he's got a knack for drumming, so I think he's due for his first drumset.

Wife gave me a nice set of standard and metric sockets and wrenches from Sears and the kids got me the Handi-cut shears. The tools came in pretty handy today putting the Craftsman work bench together that they got me. TCW Specialists in Custom Remodeling.
Tim,
The handi cut shears are a great tool, but understand that the cutting blade is a razor. I have a pair and when I first used them I treated them as if they where scissors. Big mistake! Take it from me, always lock the jaws in the closed position each and every time you lay them down. And they are not children friendly. Just needed to pass this along to you.
Enjoy your new tools. Regards"Don't take life too seriously, you are not getting out of it alive"

What kind of chisels did you get??
WoodBeaver
Got a whole lotta drill/driver bits and a 25' Fat max.
Last week bought myself a new Senco coil framing gun and a Bosch cordless impact. Paid $300 total! Local supplier's clearance table.Greg
I got a Delta Universal Wet / Dry Grinder, Troll Panel Handler made by Telpro, Werner Quickclick Stabilizer for extension ladders, Gorilla prybar, Estwing prybar and a Stanley flat bar with the bend in the middle. I've got a box of dead chisels that are going to be put back in service if I learn to use the wet / dry grinder. Windows will be easier to paint, wrap, replace or install with a nice ladder standoff. Now I'm gonna roll that sheet rock around instead of busting my #### to move it. Gotta love ole SC to get the things that you just can't talk your self into!
Got the Delta CMS that we saw one day last month while walking thru Sears.....have been thinking about a second to back up the DeWalt.....picked it up and it felt like it only weighed about 20 lbs....and that's what I was looking for.
Told the wife...I'd love to have a small one for running small trim on second and higher floors! And the price was good...clearance at $80. Didn't have it on me cash...so I walked away.
Well...I unwrapped it on XMas......and I get to saying again how for $80 it well worth it...but not for anywhere near the original asking price of almost $150.......then she confesses......the close out was closed out...so she went to another Sears..and bought it full price!
Tomorrow I'm doing the big return and will probably walk out with a new biscuit joiner.......I'd hate to waste her $150 on something I'd resent for the rest of it's life.
Never returned one of her gifts before.....but I'm also returning some clothes I bought for her that she wasn't thrilled with the fit....first time for that too!
Must be our year....had to happen sooner or later.
I was the secret santa with the DaySpa idea.....that was her big gift..and she loved it. So I can return with no ill will....she's just thrilled about the spa gift so any hard feelings will get massaged out after the first hour.

I Knew Mrs. Claus would come through for me. I got the new DeWalt 618 router kit. Fixed base, big-hole base, plunge base, 2 1/4 horse motor, I'm a happy camper!!!!!!!!
You might try to have them price adjust it. Sometimes Sears is real good about that. Tell them which store it was on sale for and if it is truly the same they may adjust it. Maybe just for in store credit. Then you get two tools(or more) insted of one.
Just Curious,
Throughout the year my business purchases tools and equipment that is paid out of the business account. I can not remember the last time I received a tool for a gift. Just curious to know if any of you guys/gals are DIY or are in the trade and getting tools as gifts.

I got mostly tools.
You know those "squeeze" clamps? The bar type ones you pump the handle on to tighten them up? My Son got me one of those. But it's only like 4" long overall. He thought it was funny, so he got it for me.
He also told DW that I needed one of those "corner clamps" for clamping stuff together at 90°. He figured I could use it on the crown moulding I've been working on............................(-:
Also got several pairs of safety glasses. I'm always scratching them up, or losing them.I'd rather french kiss a skunk.
Hi Gary,
Yes I have my own business and yes I recieve tool gifts for christmas. What i do is give my better half my check book and she buys what I want. Then I take her debit card and buy her stuff. Or she just pays cash and I use th receipt. I don't think of this as cheating becuase they all are use in my business and all the money comes out of my pocket in a round about way.

Thanks for your reply Woodbeaver,
I was just wondering why someone would give a tool as a gift when that tool is to be used in a business. My point is this, my wife, family and friends know how fond I am of tools, but they realize that they would not really be a personal gift because I will not use it, the business will. Any gift should not be business related. I am purchasing tools all the time which the business pays for outside of my salary. Why not let the business buy these business related items and get personal gifts for the holidays or for other gift giving days. Just my opinion. Thanks again for your reply."Don't take life too seriously, you are not getting out of it alive"
From here on out you are barred from talking to my better half ! She wouldnt like the way Beaver is talking either by the way . LOL.
What is hers is all hers and what is mine is half hers . Honestly if you are married a tool is community property and the money before its spent is profit and surely community property. I get the tools that I cant justify for Christmas if the business account looks good . This year it didnt look too good, so I didnt say anything. Im already spoiled rotten though with tools to tell the honest truth.

In the carpenter bus. for ever. Get tools as gifts.(And love them, too!)
YOUR RIGHT!!! TOLLS ARE TO BE LOVED!!!
The reason for tools for christmas is simple. I love tools and that is a personal gift for me. I don't want to get clothes or stupid computer games and junk that will collect dust. The tools that I get are the best presents because they will be use and ENJOYED!!!! Tools are my life and when I'm not working for profit (I hope) I'm working in my shop doing personal stuff. I also enjoy being at work and picking up one of my tools and thinking of my wife and how much trouble she went to get this for me. ( I know all the good spots and make her work to find them) HEE HEE
I guess that is why they sell the whole cow! I like to get tools for gifts but maybe I'm a tool freak!! According to my wife anyways!!!
WoodBeaver
P.S.
I guess that I should add that I am a single guy in business so my tools are just for me and not the employees. I had that already and then went back to being one guy. It is simpler.
Gary R&R do you have employees? This made a difference to tool gifts for me. Read my post in Knots forum called Novice Chisel Killer!! It is in General Discussion section.

I read your post and it was "knot" funny. That was my worst nightmare. I have a set of chisels that are honed and polished to perfection and have them hidden in the truck. When I used them the first few times I heard "Hey! where did you get those nice chisels? I did not see them in the truck" My reply was "If you value your life as much as I value these chisels, you will forget that they exist"
I do have a partner and have had workers in the past, but now that we have down sized we only hire depending on the project.
Tool freak! Sorry to hear that Woodbeaver. The Surgeon General has determined that the only cure for "Tool Freaks" are more tools.
"Don't take life too seriously, you are not getting out of it alive"
ROTFLMAO!!!! I agree about the life value and my chisels!! I'll have to use that one, that is if you don't have a copy right on it!!
As for being a tool freak and your cure for that. Do you suppose that you could call all of my family, friends and my wife just so they know that I am not alone on this world!!!!! MUST PURCHASE MORE TOOLS!!!
As for my brother and my chisels will never see each other again as you read. History and I now have a mirror like finish on all of my NON CHIPPED chisels. Feels pretty good too.
Thanks for the laughs
WoodBeaver
i got a half dozen bessey clamps, man i love those things..... bear
Wood Beaver,
Just a "cheap" set of Record Marples Blue nothing to fancy, but nothing I really have to worry about getting chiped or nicked.
Do you have a specific recomendation for next time?
Hi,
I personally use Japanese chisels. They are very expensive. I like these and they are great to use. Hold an excellent edge. Not fun to sharpen if you chip them though. FWW had a great article on chisels a while ago. Check out some of the chisel chat at Knots forum. I left a great story there about my brother and those chisels. All the other users left some hilarious stories too about toll abuse.
As far as a recomendation???? Can only say that I love the Japanese chisels and Two Cherries make good ones too. But everyone likes different things.
Happy Chiseling

Merry Christmas,
I must have been a real good boy!
I got a $50 HD gift card, $25 Lee Valley card. A new 30' Fat Max. Those cool steel drawers from Lee Valley (the ones that were in the last issue of FWW in the small shop section) Just need to make the boxes to put them in!! And last but not least WoodBeaver bought the WoodBeaver (hee hee) a new 18ga brad nailer and compressor.
Merry Christmas to all
