What’s the best approach for insulating an attic in a cold climate?
Hello fellow DIY enthusiasts!
I’m in the process of renovating my home in a cold climate area, and I’m looking for advice on the most effective way to insulate my attic. The current insulation is outdated and not doing a great job at keeping the cold air out during the winter. I’ve been doing some research on different insulation materials and techniques, but I wanted to tap into the collective wisdom of this community. What insulation materials and methods have you found to be most effective in a cold climate? Are there any specific products or brands that you recommend? I want to ensure that my home stays warm and energy-efficient, so any tips or insights you can share would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!

no question about it, closed cell foam is the most expensive but also the best but only if you are spraying the rafters out over the wall (fully sealed attic). Eliminates air infiltration, radiation, most conduction, and is a vapor barrier at 2" plus. Requires professional installation and I highly recommend you wait until you have the right weather conditions, cold rafters can cause separation though a good installer will come back and fix it.
