Where is the “Fine” in using drywall screws in Hardi Board?
The article on counter sinking screws on Hardi Board does not seem very “Fine”. Drywall screws are not made for contact with cement board, they react to cement and rust, and they are not as strong as screws made for Hardi Board. Plus the process outlined takes longer; requires a dust mask and dust collection system because of the dust the router kicks up and while it may be cheaper up front when those screws start to fail the job fails. Plus the whole process takes longer than just screwing in the right screw which has a built in set of nubs to countersink the screw without generating a pile of cement dust to clean up. I really want to ask if he secures the sub floor with screws or ring shank nails and uses the mastic between it and the Hardi Board.
