Where to find 19″ wide mineral wool insulation batts
The distance between my 1900 home’s floor joists is 19″.
I have poorly fitting and badly deteriorating fiberglass batts that I’d like to replace with mineral wool for longevity and density (joists are shallow but full 2×6).
Any leads on where I can buy 19″ wide mineral wool? Would I just buy the next size up (23″ wide) and cut to size? seems like a huge waste.

Unfortunately Rockwool only comes in 15 and 23 inch options. There is a slightly wider version designed for steel stud applications, but nothing at 19 inch.
Thanks. I'd do spray foam, but the idea of having such a flammable material (and toxic) material above the mechanicals and under my feet isn't so appealing. I guess I'll just replace with fiberglass.
It is pretty easy to cut.
Should find plenty of places to use the trimmings.
get the 23 inch material and cut it to 19 inch "length" ,turn it 90 degrees and stack it 23 inch high sections to fill the framing.
won't be pretty and probably a fair amount of cutting but you get the insulation you want and as mentioned, rock wool is fairly easy to cut with a sharp knife. I use a long kitchen knife with a framing square as a guide.
good luck
