Good morning –
I need some guidance on dealing with a local building inspector. Here’s the situation:
I’m remodeling two bathrooms in my house in Connecticut, built in 1737. The bathrooms (located one above the other) are roughly 5′ x 9′. The fixture layouts (which I’m are staying with in the remodel) are tub/toilet/vanity along the 9′ interior wall, which also includes the 30″ door into the interior of the house. I laid out the fixtures as best I could to meet code (which the plumber is telling me is 16″ from toilet to tub. He didn’t give me a number for the toilet to the vanity.
So, the rough work is done and the plumbers and I call for the inspections on plumbing and electrical. The inspector says the distance required between the tub and toilet is 19″, and he won’t pass us. Aside from the aggravation of moving the plumbing rough-ins, I can’t meet his 19″ offset in the available wall run.
Can someone point me to the correct building codes on-line? The plumbers, inspector, and I are scheduled to meet tomorrow to hash this out, and I want to have some ammunition.

You want to hash this out tommorow and are only looking for the codes TODAY!?!
You are screwed.
Go to a Barnes and Nobel and see if they have the Code Check series... that is a quick and dirty guide.

must be local interpretation-we've always worked with 15" minimum-center of toilet to any object-vanity, wall, tub front.................that is side to side clearance. If you're talking front of toilet to tub-that escapes me but is in the 22" range.
of course.......
code changes and I'm just a dumb carpenter.

Oooooo.... Tasty Link!
building code issue is now moot!
The first inspector who dinged the plumbers was replaced by his boss (sounds like the plumbing company made a call to town hall).
The boss spent 30 seconds, had the plumber explain what he did, nodded, and said everything was good to go...
Thaks for the code links
