My 7″ angle grinder (DeWalt) was stolen last fall, and I’ve been mostly making do with my 4 1/2″ Hitachi in its place. I have a couple of things coming up where I need the additional power of a bigger tool- mostly wire brush work and some actual metal grinding. I see lots of discussions here about 4 and 4 1/2 inch tools, but nothing recent about the bigger ones. With tool lines changing hands and production moving all around the world, I don’t know which names to trust anymore!
Anyone have opinions about any of the currently available crop of grinders?

I have a Metabo that is very nice. soft start, 6" wheels, and more quiet than the 4-1/2" screamers.

I like my 6" Metabo best because of some of it's features but for my metal shop I buy reconditioned units from http://www.cpobosch.com. There you will find up to 9" grinders and in my opinion are a great value. In the heavy use my guys give them they last at least as long as any other name I have tried. These grinders often get hours of use each day. 9" may be too big for some people so a 7" is a nice fit with more power than a 4 or 6"..
For some reason, 7" hd grinders are being cleared out all over the place.Home Depot is dumping the MIlwaukee 7" ones for $99 (reg $179), and Lowes is clearing out the Bosch model for $139 or so.JT
