I’m in the market for a new Jig Saw and think I’ve narrowed the choice between the Bosch 1587AVS and the Milwaukee 6266. I’m keeping away from the barrel grips, as my wife will be using it occassionally and I’m afraid her hands may be to small to get a comfortable grip. Is this a valid concern? Am I overlooking any great machines out there?
Thanks

I use the Bosch, and I think it's faultless and bombproof. I also see scads of the same tool in other carpenters' hands, ones that look like they have a lot of miles on them, and I've never heard a complaint. Which is not to say the Milwaukee isn't as good; I just don't know anything about it, and so I have no opinion.
I use one every day, I don't think you could go wrong with the Bosch...eeehaaaa...BB
I have the Bosch, and it does well, except that my base plate is curved slightly. When it rests flat on the work, the front 1/4 doesn't touch. A straight edge laid on the base confirms the curve. Both sides are curved equally, and it has never been dropped or abused, so I think it's a factory problem.
I had the same problem with a barrel grip Bosch: The first foot came bent, the second got bent when it was dropped. Mine is an early 90's era with the screw you have to tighten with a long-shanked screwdriver to fix or change blades...Pain in the petuti and lost a screw or two over time. Good tool other wise. I most use a Porter-Cable top-grip now...nice saw and nice foot but changing blades is sometimes easy and sometimes damned near IMPOSSIBLE.
Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a piece of chalk and cut it with an axe.
Just be came the proud owner of the Metabo jig saw. nice machine! takes the Bosch level of qualityand performance and kicks it up a notch, or two!
only draw back is the plastic case but I still have the metal one my P. o. C. was in.

We have the Bosch's at work and love em.
Just curious, how much was the metabo? I got their 3" random orbital sander, great tool.
Al,
174.99$ @ tool crib
15$ more than the competition, a small price to pay for quality,
If the additonal 15$ bothers you you will probably be happy w/ the Busch
Both are great saws , I really like the blade change mech. on the Metabo, all metal, easy to operateand secure.

I had the same question, and have settled on the Bosch after reading some tool reviews. My question is, barrel grip or top handle? I know that may be an unanswerable question, like sidewinder or wormdrive, but any favorites? Leaning towards the barrel grip (I have big hands).
I'd imagine, and this is a guess, that if you can get your hand around the barrel, you probably get better control - lower centre of gravity. I'd also prefer the barrel but I think my wife would be more comfortable with the top handle.
So my next question is, does anyone know what the difference is between the 1587AVSK and 1587AVSP. Same price, seem to have the same spec's - are they the same?
Thanks
Paul
I got the Bosch and love it. Don't understand the big/small hand on the barrel vs handle grip. I have pretty small hands...and find the barrel grip most confortable. But it might just be me......lotsa reviews complain about DeWalt products being better suited for big hands...and DeWalt is usually the most comfortable.
Guess it all depends what you're used to. Go to the store and carry both around for a bit.....that'll tell ya what's most comfy. Jeff "That's like hypnotizing chickens........."
Paul -
The AVSP and AVSK saws are identical - the AVSP is just the anniversary package with the metal case and extra saw blades. The barrel grip (1584)doesn't get the AVSP special package, just the top handle (1587). The AVS package is the saw without a case.
I've got the Bosch (handle version) and love it. It's smooth, powerful, doesn't let the blade torque off square, and generally, is the best jigsaw I've ever used. It's a great tool and well worth the money!
Rob, great endorsement, hope you have all your teeth, I'm doing a survey on tool users, what do you do for a living?

I use a Makita top grip and find it easier to use than my boss' Bosch barrel grip. The only reason is the switch. With the barrel grip I find the grip akward to operate, especially in tight, sideways or careful situations. The D grip, with switch at the finger is more responsive. Other than that the Bosch seems like a fine tool
that's right rob, safety first and foremost. I use to do a lot of things when younger that I wouldn't do now. Unnecessary risks, stretching ladder work, making the tool work beyond it's design. Still have all fingers, never ever take eyes off of the blade, no calisthenic maneuvers with a tool, just don't want broken bones and severed flesh. Value your well being 'cause it can be fleeting with just one act of misjudgement.
Thanks to all.
Bought a Bosch with a D-handle today and looking forward to giving it a try.
