Hot dipped galvanized. If you're toenailing into the plate, then, 3" (10p) is more than sufficient (four per stud), if your plates aren't attached yet, and you're building walls that will be stood up, then 3.5" (16p) (2 per stud nailed through the plate into the bottom of the stud) will do the trick.
For the best and longest lasting solution, consider stainless. Incredibly expensive compared with other nails, but not so big a deal in the context of the entire budget.

Unless its gonna be wet all the time, brite nails - 16 penny.
Brites - Going into pressure treated? I don't think so. You'll have nothing left to hold it in no time.

Hey all,
Maybe a little off topic but, ...........
What do you do to attach the mud sill to the foundation when the masons used regular steel J-Bolts?
ACQ sure seems to have caused problems!
I don't work with the stuff that much, but this message board seems divided into the "cost be damned,it'sgot to lastfor ever" and the "DD Galvanized, should be good enough" To the "If it is not wet all the time Don't worry about it"
I guess I fall into the middle somewhere.
REAL LIFE, architect did not specify SS fasteners for in contact with treated sill,Building inspector passed foundation with plain ol'steel bolts. So what to do?
DAVE
The trick is to have no contact between the steel and the ACQ - wrap cill-gasket around the bolt, and between washer and lumber. Or similar. All the best...
To those who know - this may be obvious. To those who don't - I hope I've helped.
