Just thought you guys might like to see that *SOME* of us were working while you guys were out at the fest. (-:
The Historical Society I volunteer at needed another building put up. They’re building a series of buildings in a row, kind of like the buildings in an old town might have been lined up. Dad and I worked at it this past weekend, along with a bunch of older guys.
In the picture called “front view” you can see the general store this building is lined up next to.
A newspaper closed down last year and gave us a bunch of old printing equipment. So this new building will be printing shop.
I was the youngest guy there by far at 43. The next youngest guy was 32. The oldest was 78. We spent all day Saturday and Sunday framing walls and trying to get the roof on.
I’m in the wall raising picture – 2nd from the right, with the wood handled hammer.
We didn’t quite make it. We got the plywood and tar paper on one side. And not all the walls are sheathed. But it’s not bad for a bunch of old guys…
Do they ever shut up on your planet?

Historical building ... trusses ... osb ... nail guns ... somethings wrong with this picture.
Is that your dad in the red & white cap?
What's the goal? What will the buildings be used for? Sounds like a multi-bldg museum.

Once the building is done, it will look old. It will eventually have rough sawn lumber siding. There will be a front porch and wooden sidewalk, etc.

Nope. I attached a pic of my Dad. He's the one in the red hat laying the OSB on the wall. You'l notice there are more people standing around watching than working.

In the first post I mentioned it will be a print shop. When we have festivals, there will be people in there demonstrating the use of old printing equipment.I'm not a bath man myself. More of a cologne man. [Homer Simpson]
I love what they have done with the backside of the adjacent building. What is that wonderful material they used to cover the gable?

The back of the General Store is antique vinyl siding.

Well, that building is an interesting story. Someone donated the WHOLE building, as it stands there. It was moved to the grounds in one piece. It was suposedly supposed to be fixed so it looked older. But nothing much has been done with it, except in the front.
So far I've managed to keep out of any involvement in that particular building. The print shop needed to be put up in order to get the donated printing equipment in a building. So right now getting a roof on that thing is a high priority.
I'm actually not involved in the day-to-day decision making out there. This more my Dad's show, and I help him out.Deja Moo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before.
I was thinking about the exposed osb above the antique vinyl.
So what you're building is an Illinois version of old Williamsburg ... a little ambitious, but a neat idea. Maybe you could call it Bosshogburg.

I realized after I posted that you probably meant the exposed OSB.
I don't think they'll be naming anything out there after me. The historical society is my Dad's 2nd home, though. Maybe they'll name something after him one of these days. He's out there all the time, and I just help out a bit.I know a kid that was so ugly that when he went to Michael Jackson's house, he had to sleep in his own bed.
If you turn the pic 90 degyou could make you dad look like spider man climbing a wall. ;-)
Did you catch the JD wagon???
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming.... WOW!!! What a Ride!
The wagon is just painted that color - I have no idea what brand it is.
I was waiting for someone to comment on the sign...I just wish once someone would call me "Sir" without adding, "You're making a scene." [Homer Simpson]
There's nothing wrong with the sign that I can see...
BTW... How did you mange to have a son older than you..

Since the green party platform is going nowhere the Republican's seem to be leaning on the green base for support. Looks to me like the Illinois Republicans have a pretty solid platform to build their party on this year.Kevin Halliburton

Do they let you do any of the measuring on this job?
"I was the youngest guy there by far at 43. The next youngest guy was 32"
Sorry - That was a typo. The next youngest guy was 62.
"Do they let you do any of the measuring on this job? "
Heck, I had to do much of the planning, measuring, figuring, cutting, etc.
Dad, my Son, and I were the only ones who weren't afraid of heights. So we had to do all the work on the roof.Stupidity got us into this mess, and stupidity will get us out. [Homer Simpson]

Dang, you guys are really busting my chops here. (-:
My Son helped a LITTLE. But there was also a scout troup out there working on another project, and he mostly hung with them.
So I really didn't count him, as he wasn't around much. But he did get up on the roof a bit and help out with the plywood.I have a great new motivation tecnique, it is donuts, and the possibility of more donuts. [Homer Simpson]
Funny, thats exactly what I thought you looked like!
