Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

am same day..( yes it's a prenail )
*pm same day..( yesterday )
*and again
*Hey Mark, everything's fuzzy about the outside edges. What'd ya do, drop the camera in a mud puddle ? Or maybe yer using one of them crazy legs special pinhole camera's made from a cracker jack box ? It looks like spring there. Are you going to have Jimbo and Mikey come down there in the worst part of our winter so you can teach them all your Ozzie building tricks ?And oh, yeah. Nice pics. Thank you, and keep 'em coming.b : )
*can't teach old dogs new tricks
*u got that upside down , as usual.. it's.."can't teach new dogs , old tricks ".like the brick veneer foundation.. nice touch.. now show us some "flash"
*hey Mike...Grumpy arrived yesterday...( thanks ) wow!...19 days Air mail!...Good old US Postal!
*drilling for tie down..( termite sheild on top of brick )
*Booker rods for tiedown
*rods in place, nuts and washers go on
*frame straightened yesterday..trusses on today
*one of our workers taking a break
*trusses up
*battens on, bracing sheets nailed off
*so... the only one on the job without fruitboots is jeddah ?and where's the flash ?... don't you sell sizzle with your spec. houses ?sure am glad we don't have those tie-down requirements... looks like something dreamed up in california...
*Mark,What's the story on those booker rods? The close up pic looks like every 32" but I can't spot them on the wide angles.Rather than embed J-bolts in the initial flooring pour, are you drilling all tie down points after the walls are raised? Expansion bolts? What are you using to attach the booker rods? Threaded sleeves?
*nahh..shes got a fruit boots too..just refuses to wear em...no sizzle needed....these things are selling before they're completed
*Ralphrods are for tie down and racking resistence....1/2 inch rods every 4 ft....next to every opening....and within 4 inches of a bracing element....rods are epoxyied in.....j bolts are ancient history here..too slow and inaccurate.
*fascia gutter time
*metal fascia, gutter clip
*Mark, I noticed that you are using hat channel for the furring on the roof. What the spacing and roof material? I've used hat channel plenty of times for acoustical purposes but have never seen it used in this way. Is this done often? Have you tried to sell Mike on steel instead of those 1x3's that he loves so much?Jon
*sheet metal roof....will span max of 1200 ( 4 ft )..but we set out at 900 ( 3 ft )..yes ...common building practice here.....no splinters...easier to handle...doesn't split when screwed off....also use a smaller section top hat for ceiling furring at 450 c
*Mark- Your gutters have holes along the top? What's that all about? Bob
*Bob,Some do..for overflow....however this particular type is not my favourite as you see the roof through the holes
*I'm a little slow-Do you mean instead of adding more downspouts they design a gutter that distributes water through holes rather than the shear waterfall effect? You must get alot of monsoons,so why not add more downspouts? Please help the deck builder understand. Thanks, Bob
*monsoons?..no..not here...the number of drops is determined by the average rainfall and roof area....the holes in the gutter are to prevent water from escaping out the back of the gutter and into the soffitts...
*ceiling battens in ( furring/strapping)
*join at change of direction
*.. i still see a lot of sky thru that roof...
*that's not sky...that's a special blue paper we sark with
*and again
*vent or no vent?
*Aren't those holes kind of a waste ? I mean wouldn't it be easier and less wasteful to just make the outside edge of the gutter lower than the inside edge ? (Inside edge being the edge to the wall, of course.)
*then you see the end of the sheet roof....not pretty
*So make the end of the sheet roof pretty. Geez, what would you upside-downers do without all the excelent advice you get from us 'muricins ?b : )
*vb up
*windows in

*Hey Mark- What's up? Did the grout get dirty? The bathroom looks pretty good from here. Oh, there is an easier way to take the shower faucets off-rather than a claw hammer.hehe Bob
*would you believe we couldn't get them off with a hammer?...ended up cutting them off with a grinder ( then we discovered there was a special nut behind the tap handle that needed a special wrench to remove!)
*Day 2Start framing..here's the plan
*well..I didn't say it'd be any good did I?
*start framing bulkheads

*That's one expensive bathtub-Say Mark-aren't you supposed to tile the deck before you throw the tub in the hole? Can't wait to see more- you pictures are comin in a little blurry. I hope your not usin that outhouse TP to clean your lens with.Bob
*This deck will be granite....yes it will be done first...just wanted to make sure everything fitted.....sorry about the picture quality....I'll see if I can get it a bit better

*good looking work... now.. personally.. i'd take half the pictures for a nice description of what we're looking at...especially since they all post upside down..r u dense ?
*errrrr.....isn't Rhode Island the most densley populated State?
*Finally finished......Whewwwww....ripped down most of the old house which was a cape and me and two guys did half of the work and I finished the rest alone due to that same ol' problem.....Ran outta money for help....BUT I'M DONE!!!!! YEEEE HAPS.....Those curved gambrels were a serious bitch.......the entry stairs with the goosenecks and valute were maybe harder to do then the gambrels not to mention the..... and and and, and I'm finally done...whewww....can I go home yet???? Oh yeh, it is my home...hmmmm
*finishing the front entry ALONE! ugh
*Finishing up all the interior trim and stairwork......right.alone
*covering the limestone and granite floor I finished with 1/4" ply duct taped together....
*smile , podner..nice looking work..
*Very nice Andy.
*Mark-You must of hand fun cutting all those inside radius corners for the tub. Looks great!Bob
*"fun" isn't a word that comes to mind...( don't know if I mentioned it, but this is all granite..that means sawing every cut, then polishing the cut with two grits, then you can place.
*Mark- so that equates to about 30 minutes per piece doesn't it? :-}
*Ain't tile work fun Mark. You and that Knob in Rhode Island set some nice standards for us poor slobs to aspire to...
*you can smile mate...but you probably aren't far off the mark
*nearly done
*Mark, Beautiful work dude. How long did that room take you and did you do it all?Tile, rock, columns, framing, etc etc? Big bucks in columns it appears. Where's the pix of the woman in the tub filled with bubbles and a glass of champagne in her hand? Is it coming? Rock on brother!!!!
*Amazing work, especially the tile, which is beyond belief. Can't say I agree with the client's taste, though. The pillars are a bit much, even in a bathroom that size. Maybe it looks more appropriate in person.
*well, you tried....hah, hah, hah......wait'll i show coble & roy....
*I agree with the columns being a bit much...they kinda crowd the room.....but.....thats what the client wanted...all up there was around 450 hours (three of us, from gut to finish, not counting the plumber/electrician/painter and glazier....the bill isn't in all in yet..but it sems between 35,000 and 40,000.....thank goodness it was do and charge.
*i thank goodness it was do and charge.Sounds like self-service night at the local cat-house.Come to think of it, I knew I'd seen that bathroom design somewhere before...b : )
*hey, mark.... holidays are over... get back to work...
