My cottage siding was recently reshingled using white cedar shingles. My carpenter said I could just leave them as is and the shingle siding would eventually weather to a silver grey color.
Will they last any longer if I stain them, or use a clear wood preservative on them? I would rather leave the shingles as they are, but if they deteriorate faster, then I would stain or use clear preservative on them.
