White roof tarp in summer to reflect heat
My black roof gets very hot in the summer, and so do my upstairs rooms, especially the one with vaulted ceilings. I believe a white roof would help a lot. The roof is only a few years old, so replacement is not an option. How crazy is it to attach a large white tarp over a portion of the roof in the summer to reflect heat? I’d have to figure out how to do so without compromising the water integrity, and also how to keep wind from catching it.
Is this dumb?

Yes. You either live with it or replace shingles with reflective shingles.
I put solar panels on mine - blocked almost all the energy going into the attic. It's much cooler and I get power.
A better option might be to use a white roof coating.
Not as cheap as a tarp, but less expensive than a new roof.
The accepted method for holding a blue tarp on a roof (although I’m not sure how well it will work with a white tarp) is to put old tires on it. You see this done all over the south west
For better reflection of the sunlight, be sure to use whitewall tires!!! :)
