Building a picket fence this spring. Pressure treated or redwood frame and cedar pickets.
Want it to be white without peeling/ cracking.
What is the best way to paint it for low maintenance? I am in California

Suggest would be to use wood stain from one of those used for this purpose, translucent but holds up longer than paint....or mix up some lime with milk and "whitewash" the fence like Tom Sawyer. Suprisingly these "milk paints" hold up for a long time.
the Flood Companys' "Seasonite".....works pretty good for me, throw it on new wood....... and NEXT year put your paint or stain or whatever over that.....after any cleaning that might be necessary
or like DanH said ........plastic.

edit:
It looks like Flood hasa new product called New Wood Defender

The cedar in Southern calif does not shrink or crack. The redwood here has too much white wood in it (termites eat it). Red wood bleeds thru and so it require a lot more paint.
If you have to use wood, pre-paint it first. You can not seal bare wood when its lapping or butting another piece
