I am finishing a major bathroom remodel and would appreciate any input this forum might have concerning shower doors. The opening is 48″ and I am interested in a framed pivot door type or a frameless sliding configuration (is 48″ too small for sliding?). Has anyone used Sterling or Alumax? Is it worth it to use 3/8″ rather than 1/4″ or 3/16″ glass? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. Bill

Have you talked to someone that sells and installs Basco doors and enclosures? They have a very complete product line that includes framed and frameless, in glass thicknesses up to 3/8".
I have not seen those yet. I did a quick search on the web and there is a dealer nearby. I'll check them out on Monday. Thanks
Please give feedback after your meeting. Basco has loads of glass options (clear, frosted, ribbed, ripply, etc.) and metal finishes. I am anxious to hear what you think.
I have installed myself, and also had my plumber do it. Their instructions are very good. We particularly like the way they package all the small parts you need. They come blisterpacked to a long strip, and are fixed to the strip in the sequence you need the parts. Very good design.
Why don't you go with a frameless side panel and a frameless door? If you do go with 12mm glass rather than 10mm glass. There is no big price difference and the 12mm looks better.
I used in my guest bathroom reno a framelees glass door and sidepanel in 12mm thickness. The sidepanel sits on a little kneewall. Very nice looks and lots of compliments from everybody who looked at it. If you want I can post some pics.

We install Basco. Not big fans of Sterling. Basco offers enough lines to cover most needs and has a ton of options. DanT
Custom shower doors are the way to go. Frameless is best. Remove the old shower door (or have the frameless shower company do it for you) and then measure the opening and the out of the plumbs. Get custom glass ordered to fit perfectly.
