I spent a couple weeks making these inlays for my wife. Flooring is 3/8 staple down and inlays are scrap wood planed to 3/8 thick to match thickness of floor.
My first attempt at this and was easier than I thought it would be.

The Paslode cordless siding and fencing nailer drives fasteners reliably without the hassle of hoses or compressors.

doodabug,
That's really, really, neat. Worthy of inclusion in the mag.. Contact them!
Not that good but thanks Frenchy
Ok Doodabug, let's knock off the false modesty. Those are dyn-o-mite and you know it as well as anyone. - lol
Having said that, I'm going to figure out a way to keep SWMBO fron seeing it. She can think up enough "honey-do's" on her own without any outside help.
Great job!!
My wife wanted it, so I did it and she likes it, so I am happy with it.
Thanks
can you think of anything you want now?;)

I don't have to ask for that thus the floor. Or lust on the floor.

methinks the gent needs refresher course in the art of negotiating!!!!!!!!! (or maybe, he's just old; given his "wish list" item/response!)

didja get laid???:)You don't have to answer that...Nice work!!!.
.
Pants???I Don't need No Steenking Pants!!!
Thanks, otherwise I would just make stuff for myself.
I agree with Frenchy, it should be in FHB - that is exactly the type item and ideas I've always looked for in FHB.
Thanks, maybe it should, but I didn't take enough in progress pics to submit anything.
Now that is a refreshing change!
Good job.
So, spill it...how'd ya do it? lay the infill on the existing and rout it out?
New Flooring and inlay pieces all cut freehand on scrollsaw.
I experimented with router and inlay set but wasn't happy with it.
If you look close it's not cut as perfect as a router would have done.
Thanks
I can't look close, I am in KY !
Really, it is great.
Very nice.
I saw a floor done somewhere, sometime, in a mag photo sequence, in which the artist did the floor as if it were a swimming pool, with edging, a pool ladder, some rubber duckies, and so forth.
It fooled the eye so well it would give you serious pause before stepping into the room.
Maybe it was paint.
You probably know of him, but if not, go Googling for Silas Kopf.
Thanks Gene, I think that was on the back of a FHB.
Way cool! and very nicely done...buic
Thanks for the compliment BUIC
VERY very nice!
Can't believe you don't have cones & tape round those things to mark the NO WALKING zone!!!
still trying to figure if you glued up with biscuits or....what....the inlays' pieces amongst themselves and then glued it down as the entire insert (each time) or what. But seems you're not telling!

The inlay was glued together as a single piece, then I kept it elevated with 1/4" piece of paneling as I fit my flooring around it.
After the flooring was stapled down, I picked the paneling out and dropped it in.
Thanks Dallas "The old gent" Do you make him ask?
Thanks; and again - good job - looks great.

Nice work, as always. What type of finish did you use?Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
Thanks Chuck, The finish is Briwax.
Thanks Doug, I think I just like cutting wood.
A big "ohhhh" and "ahhhhh" from another woodworker...very ell done.
Odd placeement to my eye, though...how did you decide to put them where you did?
Thanks, I am not allowed to decide where things go in the house.
She stays out of garage and shop.
LOL! Well, i'm glad the country cousin visited the city cousin...very nice of her to let you use her floor to frame your woodwork. <G>
whoa!!! thats looks really good, I have been thinking of doing somthing like that but only in tile, but I can't find any scollsaw blades that will cut tile, does anybody have any idea where I can find some blades, I'v seen the machines the cut with a round diniomd blade, sort of like a band saw, only on a smaller scale, but thats out of my price range right now, and again, nice job doodabug
Thanks, I don't know of blades for what you want but if you post your question on here I am sure somebody does.
Very good Doodabug, thanks for sharing.
Thanks jeraldine
