I want to get my electric waterstone set up to be more available for touching up chisels, etc, but there is the pain of set up plus now the danger of freezing. Can I use 50 percent antifreeze and leave it set up without damaging the water stone?

Traditional lime wash still has tons of useful applications.

With synthtic stone you are OK, I'd not with natural. Also the glycol may lubicate more than you like turning a 2000 stone to a 8000 stone.

I like that idea..

I'd caution against using windshield washer fluid. It contains methanol, which is quite toxic and can be absorbed through the skin, and through certain rubber gloves.
the way my machine works, I don't have to be in contact with the slurry off the edge anyway,, but I should look into this, because my wife haas used it for washing windows for years now with bare hands

I got it set up tonight in the truck ready to go with the blue juice. Thanks for the tip. It's kinda like going back to the hammer to whet by hand.
There is a grinding coolant additive for what you're doing that has anti-freeze properties....always used it with my sawmill blade grinder and we always used it in the big sawmills for grinding sawmill blades and chipper knives.
Available through industrial supply stores....depending on where you are they may have to order it.
For what you're doing a pint will probably last you a long time.
